About Community Outreach (Local Missions)

Many churches have people who are passionate about feeding the hungry in their city, and they feel the need to start a food pantry. The youth group adopts a neighborhood, the seniors read to the kids at the school, the women's ministry serves food at Thanksgiving, and the men start a remodeling ministry. While all of these things are wonderful, there is a problem: spreading out the leaders, resources, and man-power exerts maximum effort while achieving minimal impact.

At Gospel Light we have decided to reorganize this model of church outreach. Rather than spreading everything out, we're focusing! We are concentrating all our efforts on several strategic community outreach partners that are already knocking it out of the park in our city. Currently, Gospel Light is partnering with several different organizations in the city of Hot Springs. Our goal is to continue to reach out to our city through partnerships that are making a difference.

Missions is more than just a one-time event or an experience, but rather missions is a lifestyle. This means that in our homes, neighborhoods, schools, work places, and in every other area of our lives, we are to carry ourselves as ministers of reconciliation (II Corinthians 5:18-20; I Peter 2:4-9). The goal of a minister of reconciliation is to restore man and creation to a right relationship with the Lord. The primary way we serve our city is through each of our members engaging all areas of their lives with purpose and intentionality as God has called them.

Secondly, the church as a whole has been called to seek the good of the city (Jeremiah 29:5-8). We seek the welfare of the city by focusing our corporate missions efforts on improving the health, safety, education, and commercial opportunities available within the city. Each of our ministries and events are designed to strengthen these pillars of society.
